213. AUCTION - RECORD PRICES



During the last auction of Antik A.Ş., arranging magnificent auctions during which the art lovers enjoy themselves a lot, the works were sold at record prices. “İstanbul” painted by the Orientalist painter Germain Fabius Brest attracted great attention during the auction. Brest was an artist who admired İstanbul where he came to live in 1855. He expressed various aspects of life in İstanbul with a realistic attitude in his works. This painting was sold at a price of 110 billion Turkish Liras and thus, became his most valuable work sold in auctions all over the world.
A “Hilye-i Şerif” (a special calligraphic form in which the characteristics of Prophet Mohammed is written) of Esma İbret Hanım, the wife of a famous calligrapher, was sold at a price of 80 billion Turkish Liras which was also a record price.
The other items sold were the works of well known Turkish painters such as Hikmet Onat, İbrahim Çallı, Hoca Ali Rıza , Sami Yetik, Hasan Vecih Bereketoğlu and Cevat Dereli. Further, a plate of a dervish lodge, a guilt copper pot, a silver desert set with the monogram of II. Abdülhamid, an Otoman silver canteen, a silver bowl and ewer and a photograph signed by Atatürk for his first aide-de-camp were among the items sold.
