FRANCOIS CLAUDE HAYETTE
(1838-?)
"Sarayburnu to Tophane", oil on canvas,
signed 1874, 85 x 155 cm.
Hayette was educated at the school
of Fine Arts in Lyon between 1852 - 1858. In 1863, he
went to Paris and worked with such masters as Bonnefond,
Pils and Cogniet. He came to Istanbul in 1860's and
served in a teaching position at "Mekteb-i
Sultani". He participated in the first exhibition
organized by Seker Ahmet Pasha in 1873. He became
popular with his portraits and scenes from Istanbul.
